Kharagpur, the most important satellite township of the district of Paschim Medinipur. It is a multi-cultured and cosmopolitan town and also known as mini-India. It is the most populated city of Paschim Medinipur district.

IIT Kharagpur (the Indian institute of technology) is a public institute of technology and research university, an autonomous institute, one of the oldest and the first IIT's, established by the government in 1951 in Kharagpur, west Bengal. Its famous for its campus, academics, cultures, festivals among which the spring festival is one of the most famous and also for its beautiful scenery. students from all over the world studies here and it has one of the highest rates of placements among the tops.

KGP Railway station


 Kharagpur junction railway station is famous for its long platform, which is 1072.5m (3519 ft) long, the fourth longest in the world. It has 12 platforms and 24 tracks and handles 256 trains daily. KGP is located in west Bengal and is a major junction on the southeastern railway, it's also the divisional headquarters of Kharagpur division, SE railway. It also has one of largest railways workshops in India.
